Hello again.

I like to go as Fay on the internets, short for Fayrees. I recently finished my master's degree and I'm slowly beginning my full blown adult life with everything it brings: unemployment, more expensive everything, having to deal with worse hangovers, having to think up what to eat and cleaning the dishes afterwards.

And many nice things, which should be the focus of this place. And inevitable sarcastic comments on the less pleasurable things. I don't take them very seriously, though. Actually, I take so little things seriously. It makes life fun.

(I decided to keep the first posts from the previous attempt of blogging. They're not too bad imo.)

Pink Delight

When I was comfortable crocheting and started to understand how fiber crafting works a little, my fingers started to itch to actually learn knitting. I promised this as a holiday gift and intended to start in July, after all the exams. Then I had a very vivid dream on one of the last nights of June and it was very intense call for knitting. So I picked up needles and started.
The journey was a bit more complicated than with crocheting. My mum stepped in and showed me basics (which I had to re-learn later) and I wanted to make a shawl again, crescent shaped, stockinette and lace. So I did Birch Bark Canoe as my first bigger project.

Since I accidentally made about 20 rows more (I learned to be careful when reading patterns the hard way), I had to get third skein to finish it and had a lot left over, so I knitted matching fingerless mitts, Rue Véron Mittens. All the new things - circular needles, lace, DPNs, cables in one yarn, ombré beauty Drops Delight. Far from perfect but what would be the point of making a perfect knits as a beginner?

Kaldorei Shawl

I started crocheting in late August 2016, when I was bored to death a my friend suggested picking up a new hobby. I felt like learning something new and clothes related, so initially I tried knitting. My dexterity was not ready for this yet, so I dropped needles and picked up a crochet hook and sat by Youtube videos for left handed crocheters and in two afternoons I picked up the basics.
In the following year, I made quite a few things but still had a major goal on my mind - making a shawl and I wished to make it from an ombré yarn. My wish became my project in May 2017 and I made a huge shawl with a Drops Delight yarn. Upon seeing the colours, the race of Night Elves from World of Warcraft came to mind and that gave a name to the shawl.

The pattern is Eva's Shawl and I added a border that I made up trial-and-error style. This shawl is special not only because I made it with my favourite game in mind but it is also the last project I did before I picked up knitting. Ravelry link here.
